Konami Konami Digital Entertainment on Tuesday took the wraps off the TurboGrafx-16 mini. The gaming console is a compact version of the company’s 1980s version. The console is small enough to fit into gamers’ palms but comes with a full-size controller, the Japanese game giant said Tuesday at the E3 game expo in Los Angeles. The console will come preloaded with an initial handful of retro-like games, including R-Type, New Adventure Island, Ninja Spirit, Ys Book I & II, Dungeon Explorer and Alien Crush. The TurboGrafx-16 mini will be released in North America, while variants called PC Engine Core Grafx and PC Engine mini will be released in Europe and Japan, respectively. Details about pricing, availability and additional games planned weren’t made available. TurboGrafx-16 was a cartridge-based home video game released in the US in 1989. Competing with the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo, it featured an 8-bit CPU and an optional add-on that stored the games on CD-ROM. The line was discontinued in 1994. $520 at HP Use promo code 19LABOR10 to get an unusually good deal on JBL’s interesting hybrid product — not quite headphones, and not quite a traditional speaker, but something you wear like neckphones to listen to music on the go. The Queen insults Meghan Markle in this Shocking way Prince Harry infuriated

first_imgPrince HarryGetty ImagesMeghan Markle seems to have an uphill battle when it comes to pleasing her in-laws, especially when they are the Royal Family.Apparently, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has been banned by the Queen from wearing an array of jewellery worn by the late Princess Diana as an alleged row between the two escalates.According to The Sun, a royal insider said the Queen has been “less than impressed” with Meghan’s behaviour. But in a cruel twist, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, will be allowed to continue to wear the iconic jewellery. The decision is said to have left Prince Harry devastated, sparking further tensions between the royals. An insider said: “This is a surprising situation that has been going on behind the scenes over the past few months and has caused tension and upset, especially for Harry.””It is at the discretion of the Queen and trusted advisers which items in the Royal Collection she chooses to loan out and to whom.””Aspects of Meghan’s behaviour, including before the Royal Wedding, caused resentment with forces within Buckingham Palace.” Meghan Markle and Prince HarryGetty Images”To be perfectly honest, the Queen herself was not impressed with some of Meghan’s demands, especially as a new member of the family.”The senior source told The Sun that the Queen likes Meghan personally but her concerns were more about “the hierarchy.”Well we have to say that Meghan needs to keep her head down and not rub people the wrong way, which she has been doing a lot lately. Whether it actually is her fault or not doesn’t seem to be the issue as more and more people are speaking up against her behavior. One person could be disregarded, but a whole plethora of people, now the Queen included could not be misinterpreting Meghan’s behavior. As a new Royal Meghan needs to be diligent about her behavior and ingratiate herself to the Queen not antagonise her.last_img read more

Farm economy downturn forces Cargill to restructure cut jobs

first_imgCargill Inc [CARG.UL], one of the world’s largest privately held corporations, has launched a restructuring that includes job cuts, one company source and four industry sources said on Friday, the latest casualty of a downturn in the farm economy. The 150-year-old company, a top commodities trader, is also closing offices, two of the industry sources said. The cutbacks at the Minnesota-based company come as global agricultural companies are under pressure from slumping commodity prices, slowing demand in China and weakness in emerging markets where Cargill has significant investments.Cargill may eliminate as many as 4,000 jobs, which would represent about 2.5 percent of its employees, one of the industry sources said. The company is “working on recalibrating their business,” said another industry source, a banker.A Cargill spokesman initially declined to comment, saying “we typically don’t comment on rumours.” He later added that he had not “heard anything along the lines of the layoff numbers you mentioned or office closings.”Cargill is among four “ABCD” companies that dominate the flow of agricultural goods around the world, competing against rivals Archer Daniels Midland Co, Bunge Ltd and Louis Dreyfus Corp [LOUDR.UL].Recently, the companies have faced new competition from trading houses in Asia.”It seems like they’re trying to adapt and be a little bit leaner and faster,” one U.S. grain trader who interacts with Cargill said about the company.Chief Executive David MacLennan, who took the reins two years ago, has already taken steps to change the company. In the last six months, Cargill has sold its U.S. hog business to Brazilian meat packer JBS SA for $1.45 billion and paid about $1.5 billion to buy Norwegian fish feed maker Ewos. The company has said it will split the company’s hedge fund arm, Black River Asset Management, into three separate employee-owned firms.Other agricultural companies are cutting back and looking to consolidate to save money. Last month, Monsanto Co, the world’s biggest seed company, said it was slashing 2,600 jobs and restructuring operations.Deere & Co, the largest maker of farm equipment, also has eliminated jobs.Last month, Cargill reported a 20-percent gain in profits for its fiscal first quarter ended Aug. 31, following a loss in the fourth quarter that the company attributed in part to slowing economies in emerging markets.Cargill’s last substantial restructuring was about 15 years ago and aimed at moving employees into positions built around product lines instead of their geographic locations, said Ken Morrison, who worked for the company for 27 years until 2003.”Headcount reduction and Cargill just don’t go in the same sentence,” Morrison said.last_img read more

Illegal smuggling 40 exotic birds died in quarantine at Alipore Zoo in

first_imgKolkata: As many as 40 exotic birds have died in quarantine at Alipore Zoo in a span of five months from June to October. Around 153 birds that were confiscated by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) from smugglers were handed over to Alipore Zoo for treatment after a large number of them suffered injuries during the smuggling process. The DRI has sought post-mortem report of the bird deaths from the zoo.”We follow a scientific process of transporting birds and animals and ensure that all sorts of precautionary measures are in place so that animals or birds do not suffer any sort of injury and get minimum stress. These birds that were handed over to us were being smuggled illegally and subjected to most unhygienic conditions. Our doctors have said the birds died because of acute dehydration, enteric diseases and also due to neurogenic shock,” said Asis Kumar Samanta, director of Alipore Zoological Gardens. Also Read – Rain batters Kolkata, cripples normal lifeAccording to Samanta, the birds during quarantine at the Zoo hospital are constantly monitored by three veterinary physicians. “However, in case of a number of birds, complications developed after some days that apparently seemed well when they were first handed over. It is not unusual for certain diseases to relapse because of the unscientific method of transportation and the heavy stress faced by the avians. A number of birds were also involved in infighting during the transportation process and had suffered injuries,” a senior official of the Zoo said. A zoo official informed these birds were packed into bags or cooped up in tiny cages and crammed into a car boot or under the seat. They travelled like that for hours before being intercepted. The mortality list also includes eight Pygmy Falcons which are the smallest birds of prey and native to Africa, Gouldian Finch, much sought after for its colourful plumage and also a Rosella that was the last bird death as communicated to the DRI by the zoo authorities. Most of the rescued birds were smuggled into Bengal from the Southeast Asian countries like Myanmar and Bangladesh.
